Hi, we are looking for a Founding Engineer and we hope it's you!

🏗 About Buildstock

Buildstock is a seed-stage B2B procurement marketplace for the $1.4 trillion construction material industry. 84% of construction projects come in over budget and a root cause is lack of access to suppliers and inability to optimize material spending.

We help developers save as much as 35% of their material costs by improving vendor discovery and eliminating middlemen. With COVID recently exposing major supply chain weaknesses in this space, we recently raised $1.5m from notable VCs (e.g. XFactor, Precursor, MGV) to help us realize this ambitious vision.

đź‘· About the opportunity

We’re looking for a Founding Engineer to help us launch Buildstock’s MVP to our waiting cohort of early customers. This is a great opportunity for a product-minded engineer who wants to experience the 0→1 phase of a startup, have the corresponding upside, and make an outsized impact across product, engineering, and team culture.

You’ll be working closely with both founders:

Kathryn Thiele

Construction expert who has developed 15+ projects collectively worth >$1b and over 8m sqft

Wilson Kriegel

Serial entrepreneur (this is his 8th funded startup) with 4 past exits, including 1 unicorn.

🎒 What you'll do

  • Deliver robust, scalable, and well-tested code
  • Architect and own the technical vision for the company
  • Collaborate with the founding team to shape the product roadmap, including advising on feasibility and recommending potential solutions
  • Translate business & product requirements into technical specifications
  • Have full autonomy to make technical decisions, e.g. technology stack, managing internal systems, and infrastructure for scale

🧑‍💻 About you

  • Minimum of 5 years experience building full-stack web apps. You don’t need to be an expert in both front- and back-end, but if necessary, you have the skills to single-handedly take a concept from zero to launch
  • You’ve worked at a funded startup before and are comfortable with the fast pace and ambiguity that comes with the earliest stages
  • You’re a builder at heart and enjoy the hands-on problem solving and end-to-end ownership
  • You know how to communicate to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • You have a high internal code quality bar, but also know how to evaluate tradeoffs when taking a shortcut makes sense
  • Ideally based in NYC or SF (or willing to relocate). We plan to build an in-person/hybrid team culture with hubs in those two locations.

🍬 Bonus points

  • Familiarity with Python/Django and/or Vue. While this is our current stack, we’re open to alternatives! We believe in using the best tool for the job.
  • Prior experience building in fintech, B2B SaaS, or marketplace apps
  • Experience (or interest in) taking on a leadership or engineering management role as the company grows. If you prefer a senior IC role, that’s fine too!
🤔
Not sure you meet 100% of our qualifications? Please apply anyway!

🚀 Why join Buildstock?

  • Work closely with experienced founders at the 0→1 stage of a startup. This is a great opportunity especially if you may want to start your own company one day.
  • Earn meaningful upside in a well-funded company in a massive space.
  • Have your impact be felt beyond the scope of pure engineering. Your ideas and work will shape Buildstock’s product and direction, influence the internal culture we build together, and make a major difference for our customers.
  • Accelerate your career with growth opportunities that simply don’t exist in more established companies.

👆 How to apply
